The goal of Theology Ablaze is to salute our governing virtues, recognizing that virtue in Latin connotes “power.” If we honorably explicate, then embody, our major ideals, Unitarian Universalism will become an empowered and empowering presence in the 21st century orb of religious conversation.
In truth, these chosen theological topics are familiar to all world religions. While we harbor our distinctive approach and angle, Unitarian Universalism certainly possesses no corner on any of them. Our aim is to view these classic traits through our own progressive lens. We engage them with the sole purpose of sustaining the Creation we earthlings hold in common.
The theological themes explored in this volume are a mix of prophetic and pastoral, as our theological reality gazes inward and outward, engaging both the passive (being vulnerable, broken, and in need of comfort and healing) and active (being creative, serving, and useful) sides of the robust, soulful life.
Contemporary Unitarian Universalism is firmly grasping that one of our mandatory tasks is doing theology in a constructive, compassionate, and communal way. Blessedly, may our flame burn with an intense light, accompanied by beneficial heat.
